HubSpot Campaigns let you group all the assets for a marketing initiative, whether that is an email series, a paid ad flight, or a product launch, into a single view so you can track performance across every channel in one place.
This guide covers how to create a campaign in HubSpot, what to connect to it, and how to read the campaign reporting once it is running.
In HubSpot, go to Marketing > Campaigns and click Create campaign. Give it a descriptive name that includes the initiative and the timeframe (for example, “Q3 Hotel Lead Gen – July 2026”). Set a start and end date so the report filters correctly.
Add an estimated budget so you can track spend against results. Set a primary goal (contacts, revenue, or sessions) that aligns with the campaign’s purpose. These fields appear in campaign reporting and help you evaluate return at a glance.
Once the campaign is saved, attach every asset that belongs to it: emails, landing pages, forms, CTAs, workflows, blog posts, paid ad groups, and social posts. HubSpot rolls up the performance data from each connected asset into the campaign report.
For ads and external links, make sure UTM parameters reference the campaign name. HubSpot’s campaign tracking links (available in the Campaigns tool) add UTMs automatically for assets created inside HubSpot. For external ads run in Google Ads or Meta, match the utm_campaign value to the campaign name so sessions and conversions attribute correctly.
Use the campaign overview to check impressions, clicks, contacts influenced, and deals influenced as the campaign runs. If one channel is underperforming, adjust spend or messaging before the campaign ends rather than waiting for the final report.
What can you connect to a HubSpot campaign?
HubSpot supports a wide range of assets in the Campaigns tool. You can attach:
- Marketing emails sent through HubSpot’s email tool
- Landing pages and website pages built in HubSpot CMS
- Forms embedded on pages inside or outside HubSpot
- CTAs placed on blog posts or website pages
- Workflows triggered by campaign-related form submissions
- Blog posts written to support the campaign topic
- Social posts scheduled from HubSpot Social
- Paid ad campaigns linked from Google Ads or Meta via the Ads tool
The more completely you connect your assets, the more useful the campaign report becomes. A common mistake is running email and ads together but only attaching the email, which gives you an incomplete picture of what drove results.
How does HubSpot campaign reporting work?
The campaign report in HubSpot aggregates data from every connected asset. The key metrics to review:
- Contacts influenced: the total number of contacts who interacted with at least one campaign asset. This is a broader measure than “contacts acquired” because it includes people who were already in your database when the campaign reached them.
- New contacts: contacts created during the campaign window who are attributed to the campaign.
- Deals influenced: deals that have an associated contact who interacted with the campaign. This is useful for understanding pipeline contribution, especially for B2B campaigns with long sales cycles.
- Revenue influenced: the total value of deals influenced by the campaign (requires Closed Won deals with an amount set).
- Sessions and impressions: traffic data from connected pages and ads.
Attribution in HubSpot campaigns follows the first-touch, last-touch, or linear model depending on your portal’s attribution settings. For teams running multi-channel campaigns in Southeast Asia where LINE, email, and paid search often overlap, linear attribution tends to give a more honest read of which channels contributed.
How do you track campaigns across LINE and offline touchpoints?
HubSpot’s native campaign tool works well for digital assets, but teams in Southeast Asia often run campaigns that include LINE OA broadcasts, events, and offline referrals. For these:
- LINE broadcasts: if you have a LINE OA to HubSpot integration, tag incoming contacts from a LINE campaign with a contact property (for example, “LINE Campaign: July Hotel Launch”) and enrol them in a workflow that associates them with the campaign using the “Set contact property” action plus a campaign UTM on any linked landing page.
- Events and offline: create a form for event check-ins or lead collection and connect that form to the campaign. Any submission becomes a contact influenced by that campaign.
- Referrals: use a unique form or a campaign-specific landing page for referral traffic so that the source is captured cleanly.
What is the difference between campaigns and workflows in HubSpot?
Campaigns in HubSpot are a reporting and organisation layer. They group assets and pull performance data. Workflows are the automation engine that triggers actions (send email, update property, create task) based on contact behaviour.
The two work together: a campaign might include a workflow that enrols contacts who submit the campaign’s form and sends a follow-up email sequence. Attaching the workflow to the campaign means contacts influenced by the workflow count toward the campaign’s metrics.
How many campaigns should you run at once?
There is no fixed limit, but running too many campaigns simultaneously makes it harder to allocate budget and attention. A practical approach for most Southeast Asian teams is to have one or two active campaigns at a time with clearly defined audiences, then add evergreen campaigns (such as an always-on lead generation campaign) to capture background traffic without it competing with a time-bound initiative.
If you are using HubSpot’s Marketing Hub and want to understand how campaigns fit into the broader HubSpot ecosystem, the workflows guide and the reporting guide are useful starting points.
Frequently asked questions
Can you add a campaign to a contact after the campaign has ended?
You can retroactively associate contacts with a campaign by adding them to a list and using the campaign’s contact import, but this is generally not recommended as it distorts the campaign’s timeline data. It is cleaner to close the campaign and start a new one for the next initiative.
Does HubSpot Campaigns work with the free CRM?
The Campaigns tool requires a paid Marketing Hub subscription (Starter tier includes basic campaign tracking). The full attribution and multi-touch reporting features are available on Marketing Hub Professional and above.
How do you archive a campaign in HubSpot?
From the Campaigns dashboard, open the campaign, click Actions, and select Archive. Archived campaigns are removed from the active view but the data is preserved and the campaign remains accessible from the Archived tab.
Can you clone a campaign for a recurring initiative?
Yes. From the campaign overview, click Actions and select Clone. This duplicates the campaign record and its associated assets, which is useful for recurring promotions such as seasonal campaigns or monthly newsletters where the structure stays the same.
