Revenue attribution in HubSpot connects your marketing activities to closed deals. It answers the question every marketing team faces: which campaigns, emails, ads, and content pieces actually contributed to revenue — and how much credit does each one deserve.
Without attribution, marketing and sales teams end up arguing about credit. With it, you have data that tells you where to invest next quarter.
Go to Reports > Attribution > Revenue Attribution. This is available on Marketing Hub Professional and Enterprise. If you do not see it, check your subscription tier.
HubSpot offers six models: First Touch, Last Touch, Linear, U-Shaped, W-Shaped, and Full Path. Each distributes credit differently across the interactions in a deal’s history.
Attribution tracks interactions across ads, emails, landing pages, forms, and content. The more marketing assets you run through HubSpot, the more complete the attribution picture becomes.
Decide whether you are reporting on deals closed within a period or interactions that happened within a period. These give different views of the same data.
Attribution is most useful when you review it monthly against your actual spend. Flag the highest-credited assets and investigate whether the pattern is consistent across deal types.
What attribution models does HubSpot offer?
HubSpot provides six attribution models, each answering a slightly different question:
- First Touch — 100% of credit goes to the first marketing interaction. Useful for understanding how prospects discover you.
- Last Touch — 100% of credit goes to the interaction immediately before a deal is created. Useful for evaluating bottom-of-funnel assets.
- Linear — Credit is split equally across all touchpoints. Good for teams that want every channel to count.
- U-Shaped — 40% to the first touch, 40% to the lead creation touch, 20% distributed across the middle. Balances discovery and conversion.
- W-Shaped — 30% to first touch, 30% to lead creation, 30% to deal creation, 10% distributed. Tracks the full sales engagement.
- Full Path — 22.5% each to first touch, lead creation, deal creation, and deal close, with the remaining 10% distributed. Best for teams with long, multi-touch sales cycles.
Most teams in Southeast Asia with shorter sales cycles start with U-Shaped or Last Touch, then move to W-Shaped once they have enough deal data to make the model meaningful.
Which interactions does HubSpot track for attribution?
HubSpot attribution tracks interactions that happen within the platform or through connected integrations:
- Form submissions (including chat and pop-up forms)
- Email clicks and opens tracked through HubSpot
- Ad clicks from Google Ads, Facebook/Meta, and LinkedIn Ads connected to HubSpot
- Page visits for contacts in your CRM
- CTA clicks on HubSpot-hosted or tracked pages
- Meeting bookings through HubSpot Meetings
Interactions that happen outside HubSpot — a direct sales call that is not logged, a referral from a partner, an offline event — will not appear in attribution data unless you log them manually as activities. This is a gap that every team discovers early.
How do you read a revenue attribution report?
The attribution report in HubSpot shows you each asset (ad, email, landing page, content) alongside the revenue it was credited with under your selected model. The columns to focus on:
- Revenue attributed — the total deal value credited to this asset
- Interactions — how many contact interactions this asset generated
- Contacts — how many unique contacts interacted with it
- Deals influenced — the number of closed deals where this asset appeared in the path
A high interaction count with low attributed revenue often means the asset attracts traffic that does not convert. A low interaction count with high attributed revenue means the asset is a conversion driver worth investing in further.
What is the difference between influenced revenue and attributed revenue?
This is a common point of confusion in HubSpot attribution reports.
Attributed revenue is the deal value assigned to a specific asset based on the model you chose. It depends on where the interaction fell in the path and how much weight the model gives that position.
Influenced revenue is the total value of deals where the asset appeared at any point in the journey, regardless of position. An asset can influence a deal without receiving much attributed credit if it appeared in the middle of a long path under a First Touch or Last Touch model.
Influenced revenue is a broader signal. Attributed revenue is a model-dependent signal. Use both together when evaluating whether to cut or scale a channel.
How does revenue attribution connect to your HubSpot reporting dashboards?
You can pull attribution reports directly into custom HubSpot reporting dashboards. This lets you place revenue attribution data alongside your pipeline, deal velocity, and marketing performance metrics on one screen.
A practical setup is to have one dashboard tile showing attributed revenue by source (organic, paid, email, direct) and another showing it by asset type. This gives leadership a clean view of which channels are driving pipeline without needing to dig into the full attribution report each week.
If you are using HubSpot Campaigns to group your marketing assets, the Campaign report will also show you attributed contacts and revenue per campaign — a useful shortcut if you run discrete campaign windows.
What are the limits of HubSpot revenue attribution?
Attribution data in HubSpot reflects what the platform can observe. There are real limits worth knowing:
- Attribution only covers contacts who are in your CRM before the deal closes. Anonymous website visitors who never fill a form are not tracked.
- Ad attribution depends on the ad account being properly connected and conversion tracking being in place. A disconnected ad account will show zero ad credit even if your ads drove traffic.
- Long sales cycles with significant offline activity (events, referrals, direct sales calls) will underweight those channels in attribution data.
- Attribution models assign credit mathematically, not causally. High attributed revenue from a channel does not prove that channel caused the conversion.
These limits do not make attribution useless — they make it a directional tool rather than a definitive one. Use it to identify patterns and validate hypotheses, not to declare absolute winners.
Frequently asked questions
Which HubSpot plan includes revenue attribution?
Revenue attribution reporting is available on Marketing Hub Professional and Enterprise. It is not available on Starter or Free plans.
Can I attribute revenue to offline interactions in HubSpot?
Not automatically. You can log offline activities (calls, events, in-person meetings) as CRM activities on a contact, but these are not included in the automated attribution model. They will appear in the contact timeline but not in attribution reports.
How far back does HubSpot attribution data go?
HubSpot attribution data is available from the date your portal was created, but only for contacts and deals that already existed in HubSpot. Historical data from before HubSpot was set up is not retroactively imported.
Should I use the same attribution model for all my campaigns?
Most teams use one model consistently so comparisons are like-for-like. Some teams run reports under multiple models simultaneously when they are evaluating a channel decision. Changing models frequently makes trend analysis unreliable.
